Teaching Philosophy
My educational philosophy is that learning is a cooperative and social experience. I feel that we learn best when we are able to reflect and talk with others. The social aspect allows us to better process our thoughts and gain a greater understanding while sharing with others. As an educator, I strive to build an environment where students are able to learn and grow together. This type of learning environment may sometimes look messy but the the outcome for students and for the instructor make it well worth the experience. Open lines of communication allow everyone to have a voice and value in the learning. This philosophy impacts my style of teaching.
Research
My primary research interest is the relationship between technology acceptance and use and personal innovation. This relationship serves a guiding factor in my work as I seek to understand how individual's perceptions about their use of technology evolves through changes in attitudes about self- efficacy and other internal and external motivational factors. Research about the intersection of these two theories continues to grow and to be explored in educational settings and beyond.
Outreach
I am an active member of the local community. At the University, I serve on various committees (Library, Assessment, Graduate Programs, Technology, and Common Read). I serve on the board of several local nonprofits. I am a member of the Alabama School Librarians Association, American Association of School Librarians, Black Caucus of the American Library Association, and the American Library Association. I serve as a workshop presenter for SARIC. I am interested in collaborating with other researchers on topics such as digital equity and the impact of remote teaching and learning.
